Cambridgshire school fighting to reopen after Storm Ciara caused extensive damage
Sawtry Village Academy has not opened this week after strong winds ripped through the grounds over the weekend.
A significant portion of metal sheeting was blown off the main school building, while the vast majority of the hall roof has been stripped and discarded across the site causing damage to music, the Refectory and hall areas. The rain that came with the wind has caused extensive internal damage to electrical systems- including lighting, ICT servers and computer suite

Hide AdHeadteacher, Simon Parsons, said: “The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our highest priority and following advice from site managers, contractors and the police, we made the decision to close the academy on Monday and Tuesday.
“The storm caused extensive damage to the roof but thanks to the hard work and dedication of our contractors, we have been able to rapidly fix these issues. We would like to thank our community for their heart-warming offers of support and look forward to welcoming students back to the academy as soon as possible.”
The school has not announced if it will re-open tomorrow.
