A school in Peterborough has received planning approval for a new play area.

Queen’s Drive Infant School, near Park Road, applied for a new “mono pitch canopy” which could be used all year round by pupils.

Its application to Peterborough City Council stated: “As part of the school drive to meet the requirement laid down by the curriculum and Ofsted the school has identified the need to be able to provide additional all year round play for its pupils.

“This canopy will provide an area of plan for the last classroom on the playground as well, and for a small ground plan and protection for the staff when the pupils are entering and leaving the school in the morning and afternoon.”

The domed canopy will be 6.3m x 4m and will have padded covers to protect children from hurting themselves.
