The Crown Inn at Elton, Cambridgeshire’s Dining Pub of the Year according to the Good Pub Guide, has reopened for outdoor service.

The pub and restaurant on the village green was awarded the title by the national organisation in December - but until now because of lockdown, has been unable to celebrate it.

That changed this week, however, and chef patron Marcus Lamb is welcoming guests on the benches at the front on the pretty hostelry as well as an in open sided marquee at the back.

And while he can’t cook up some of the dishes that helped win the award, Marcus is serving from a menu of “small plates” - alfresco-friendly tapas style food.

Marcus said: “It is not an ideal situation financially, but we felt that as a village pub we needed to be open. I can’t wait for May 17 when we can have customers back inside and things get back to something a little more normal.”

The Crown is currently open 4pm to 9pm during the week, 12pm to 10pm on Saturday and 12pm to 6pm on Sunday.
