Violent crime in Peterborough up 15 per cent in last year
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics show the number of recorded incidents of violent crime has increased from 3,189 by the end of September 2014 to 3,674 12 months later.
In total, crime has risen by 2.7 per cent in the last year with 15,541 incidents in the city over that time.

The rise of 485 extra violent crimes are all from incidents without injury.
A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said: “While there is an increase in recorded crime, our increase (3 per cent) is lower than the regional (7 per cent) and national (6 per cent) averages.
“It reflects our commitment to improve consistency in crime recording so the public can have confidence in the statistics and in reporting crimes to us in the first place.

“In Cambridgeshire we have been consistent – working hard to reduce crime but not focusing on numbers. Our aim is to reduce harm and protect the most vulnerable, particularly in crimes such as domestic burglary where offences dropped by seven per cent. We are determined to build on that and have launched Operation Hunter to prioritise burglary investigation and prevention in the county.”
