Your item in last week’s PT (on Rhubarb Bridge) made good reading and should raise further doubts about Peterborough City Council since, from the start, the present scheme was rushed, driven by fears the bridge beams could collapse at any time.

The scheme was claimed by Councillor Hillier to improve traffic flow, yet now traffic speed is having to be reduced from 40 to 30 mph “for the safety of pedestrians”. To any observer the obvious question is: why not have them use the bridge system already there?

PCC cannot claim the present scheme is designed to be safe since there is a safety audit to the contrary: the reality will become obvious but the solution would be to erect signs advising use of bridges.

If PCC close bridges and force use of the roadside route which leads to an accident, I believe they could be sued.
