Commonwealth flag to fly in Peterborough to mark Commonwealth Day
The celebrations, held on the second Monday of March each year, provides the opportunity for communities and organisations to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy, equality and diversity.
Previously events are held across the nation to mark the day, including a service held at Westminster Abbey. However, in line with Covid-19 restrictions, in person celebrations will not be going ahead this year.

Hide AdThe theme of this year is ‘Delivering a Common Future’, celebrating how the 54 Commonwealth countries are innovating, connecting and transforming to achieve some of the biggest goals, such as fighting climate change.
The Peterborough event will take place at 10am, including the raising of the Commonwealth flag outside the Town Hall and contributions from the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Gul Nawaz, and Canon Ian Black.
Residents will able to watch the short ceremony via the Peterborough City Council social media platforms, including the YouTube and Facebook pages.
It is the eighth time local authorities and civic dignitaries, community groups and charities throughout the British Isles are taking part in local flag raising events and ceremonies which totalled over 800 last year.
