A popular Peterborough matchday pub is welcoming both Peterborough United and Cambridge United fans through its doors as the local rivals face each other in the league for the first time in 21 years this Saturday (October 29).

Charters Bar, in Town Bridge, just off London Road, will allow “family-friendly” Posh and U’s supporters into the pub before kick-off (3pm) from 11am – taking extra precautions and working alongside Cambridgeshire Police to stop “risk groups” from entering.

The pub says it will increase its door staff to “keep everyone safe”.

"Like any other football match at Charters, we will allow family-friendly home and away fans in,” Warren Allett, general manager at Charters Bar, said.

"We’ve upped the door staff and we know there is going to be a large police presence around Peterborough. We don’t feel like we need to quash away fans from pubs in the city.

"We’ve spoken with the police and we will not be allowing risk groups in. The police know who those groups are and know that we’re not wanting to take them.

"With the aid of the police we will work together to make it a decent matchday for everyone.”

The pub is urging both sets of supporters to conduct themselves appropriately on Saturday.

“It’s just a football match at the end of the day,” Warren added.

"We’re all adults, and should be able to sit together in the same pub, as you would if it wasn’t a football match.”
