A storm warning has been issued for Peterborough this afternoon.

Today is expected to be one of the hottest days of the year and this morning teh city is bathed in glorious sunshine - but the Met Office is warning that thunder storms could arrive this afternoon.

The warning is in place between 4pm and midnight.

The Met Office said: “Many places staying dry, but isolated thunderstorms may cause some travel disruption.”

The storms could cause:

Damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes

Some short term loss of power and other services is likely

Delays to train services

Some flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures

There is a small chance that driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.
