Peterborough United will carry on throughout the latest lockdown, but grassroots sport will grind to a halt
The English Football League says it has been told by the Government that its competitions can continue in England and Wales as elite sport was given the go-ahead to continue.
“We acknowledge the Government’s national efforts in tackling this outbreak and would hope that during this next phase of the crisis, our national sport, negatively affected by Covid-19 like many other industries, can continue to provide some form of welcome distraction and give people in our communities up and down the country a sense of normality in very challenging times,” the EFL said in a statement.

Hide AdGrassroots sport is unlikely to continue with football from step three down and all junior football expected to come to a halt. Leading local non-league club Peterborough Sports play at step three level.
The rugby union season for Peterborough Lions and Peterborough RUFC has already been cancelled for the entire 2020-21 season.
Golf courses will shut as will indoor sports centres and gyms.
Prime Minister delivered the latest lockdown rules in an early evening press conference yesterday (October 31).
